ON THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ADOPTION OF THE CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD (CRC) AMAN CENTER AND THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

The Center for Protection and Social Rehabilitation (AMAN), under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation for Social Work organized an interactive forum entitled: 'Child Protection Mechanisms' against bullying and harassment in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission, Behavioral Health Support Center, Al-Shafallah Center for People with Disabilities, Dreama Orphanage Center, Wifaq Family Consulting Center,

This event comes on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and coincides with The “Arab Child Day" and “The International Day of Non-Violence", and brings together more than 300 social and psychological specialists from various primary schools, kindergartens & Nurseries, and from centers concerned with children  In the state of Qatar, with the aim of presenting the most important mechanisms for child protection and acquiring specialists skills to educate children to protect themselves against any abuse they may be exposed to in scientific and practical methods simplified and attractive.

The interactive forum is co-presented by a number of experienced specialists in the field of child education, including “Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Harami" Director of the Educational Preparation Center, “Mr. Ammar Mohammed" communication technology specialist, and Professor “Zainab Al Mahmoud" head of Aman's awareness campaigns for schools.

The forum witnessed a large presence by specialists where an electronic link was launched to register the participating specialists, and has been circulated to all primary schools (government and private), kindergartens, and nurseries along with an English translation of the forum for private schools foreign specialists.

The forum also witnessed a great participation and positive interaction through the electronic voting of some of the questions addressed to the specialists, and the attendees voted on air, as well as the forum witnessed live interventions that were responded to by the psychological and social consultants of the centers.

The forum includes several topics, the most important of which are:

1- Education & Care:

This topic was presented by educational advisor Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Harami, where the difference between education and care was explained and confirmed that the measurement of the urbanization and strength of communities is the level of care and education provided to children.

2- Digital education:

This Topic was presented by Mr. Ammar Mohammed - consultant and trainer of Electronic marketing, where he offered for the safe and useful use of devices through the follow-up of parents to the preparations of devices for the child, as well as a contract between parents and the child for the safe use of the devices includes the conditions and advantages that The child receives it if he complies with the contract and the violations or punishment in case of non-compliance.

3- Bullying & Harassment:

This Topic was presented by Mrs. Zainab Al Mahmoud a specialist at Aman Center, where she reviewed the problems of bullying and harassment as global phenomena, with the explanation of the campaign 'Don not touch me' to raise awareness against harassment, which is considered as an educational awareness campaign that seeks to educate children means of protecting themselves, shows the correct touches and wrong touches, and promote The concepts of the stranger and near and how to deal with them through the use of attractive and new methods to convey the message such as: the use of “do not touch me robot" which shows the child how to deal with the harasser and other methods followed, in addition to recently launched by the Center with the beginning of the Academic year “Pick Up your Kids" to provide psychological safety for children and invest the time in the dialogue between parents and the children as one of the important mechanisms in protecting the child.

4- Electronic applications:

This Topic was provided By Mrs. Sherifa Al Saad a specialist at Aman Center, where she offered electronic applications developed by Aman Center as one of the mechanisms to protect children from harassment and bullying such as mobile application “help me" to seek help when the child is exposed to any risks, and the mobile application 'Tell me' which was launched experimentally to Report any harmful scenes, behaviors or games. In addition to finding alternative solutions for children such as sitting online at the rate of two hours a day, and using child-friendly and violence-free games as  'fishing, diving' games.

Amal Al-Mannai: The real celebration of the Convention on the Rights of the Child is the practical activation of its provisions.

Amal Bint Abdul Latif Al Mannai, CEO of Qatar Foundation for Social work, said that the essence of the real celebration of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was ratified by the State of Qatar in 1995, is to activate its provisions practically, which is reflected in the activities, programs and applications of the centers under the umbrella of The foundation, which has been able to transform many of the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its provisions into practical applications such as the right to access, report, protection and support educators, parents and specialists surrounding the child, in addition to enabling the child to protect himself,

She added that working in the field of childhood requires coordinating efforts between different sectors, which was keen by Qatar Foundation for Social Work through encouraging its affiliating centers, most notably Aman Center, the Center of Shafallah and Wifaq this event in partnership with the government sector represented by the Ministry of Education and higher education as well as the civil society sector represented in the Center for Support for Behavioral Health in addition to the National Human Rights Commission confirmed that these institutional partnerships will contribute to supporting community efforts and maximizing the benefits to the target groups of the respondents.

Ali Al-Kuwari: Education is a fundamental pillar of the Convention on the Rights of the Child

"Education is a fundamental pillar of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and therefore the ministry seeks to support civil society efforts through partnership in various activities that support children's rights in general and the right of children to education," said Professor Ali Al-Kuwari, Director of the School Department of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

He stressed that the active participation between the government sector and civil society would promote the right of children to education, stressing that right is not complete only by paying attention to the behavioral and educational aspects of the child himself, and therefore the ministry cooperates with Aman Center and other centers in successful awareness campaigns aimed to protect and educate the child such as “Don't touch me" and “Pick Up your Kids" campaigns.

Dr. Mansour Al Saadi: Protecting children is everyone's responsibility

Dr. Mansour Al Saadi Al-Yafei, Executive Director of Aman Center, said that child protection is everyone's responsibility, there must be an interactive partnership between civil society organizations and the government sector, adding that the issue of child protection is becoming increasingly important in light of the developments in Society such as violent electronic games, increased rates of bullying and harassment globally, which calls for concerted efforts to educate children and their parents, teachers and specialists with the correct foundations and mechanisms of protection, and provide them with the latest mechanisms and techniques in this field.

About the Convention on the Rights of the Child

In 1989, world leaders recognized the world's children need for having their own convention, because human beings under the age of 18 often need special care and protection that adults do not.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the first international legal agreement that legally obliges States parties to integrate the entire human rights chain, i.e. civil and political rights, as well as cultural, social and economical rights.

In 1995, the emir's decree approving Qatar's accession to the Convention on the Rights of the Child was issued.

The Convention has achieved almost universal acceptance and has been ratified so far by 193 parties, and the Convention contains 54 articles and two protocols: the right of the child to survive, development and growth to the fullest extent, protection from harmful effects, abuse and exploitation, and full participation. Arab Child Day:

Arab Child Day is celebrated on the same day annually on the death anniversary of the Palestinian child Mohamed al-Durrah who was killed by Israeli occupation forces on September 30, 2000.

On this occasion, The Arab Countries hold many activities, events and workshops to introduce society to the culture of children's rights and to promote the bonds of coexistence and understanding between Arab children and the children of the world.

The International Day of Non-Violence:

It is the day of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2nd of each year, where the UN General Assembly unanimously approved on June 15, 2007, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, October 2, 'World Day of Non-Violence' in all its economic, cultural, media or propaganda forms, as a symbol of spreading the message of non-violence through education and public awareness.​​
